Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager - Business Development for our Texas and Colorado regions (currently, our USA operations). This role will be based out of Houston, Texas with support to our Denver, Colorado team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful candidate will be accountable for sales leadership in our existing Houston and Denver operations, and may be tasked to develop business for future operating regions within the USA.

The Manager - Business Development will be a leader in developing our sales culture, strategies, and processes. Responsibilities include strategic planning and execution, client development (new clients) and maintenance (existing Key Clients), and ensuring that Magna continues to grow revenue.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following areas:

Business Objectives

Work collaboratively with senior leadership (CEO, CFO, Director of Operations) and local leadership (Operations Managers and Client Managers) to set objectives aligned with Magna’s overall operating plan, and goals for growth in expertise, services and clients
Assist Client Managers to set objectives
Preparation and implementation of the annual operating plan (budget)
Collaborate with Senior Leadership to determine yearly budget requirements and meet budget objectives
Work with Senior Leadership to measure department performance as it relates to key metrics such as sales activities, proposal generation, and revenue growth.
Promote a common understanding and commitment to department and project objectives
Foster a culture of accountability, consistency and urgency throughout the US Operations

Processes and Systems

Lead the development and improvement of sales processes, including “Client Manager Plans”, “Key Client Plans”, or similar
Build relationships and work collaboratively with Operational and Central Services teams (including Marketing, based in Edmonton, AB) to assist in implementing and executing all Magna practices and processes
Promote company safety policies

Business Development

Coordinate activities with Marketing, Client Managers, and Consulting Engineers to achieve a collaborative effort with the goal of revenue growth in line with Annual Operating Plan targets
Identify, coordinate and implement initiatives that will provide new service offerings (within the guideposts of our Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Values)
Identify opportunities for proposals, and delegate the proposal stage to the applicable client/project manager(s)
Foster a culture of strong client relationships and support team members in establishing strong relationships and communication with clients
Review proposals and quotations (as requested by Operations Managers, Client Managers, and Consulting Engineers) through providing input and conducting evaluations, reviewing price estimates and feasibility of projects
Travel to client sites and field offices to develop new, and maintain existing client and employee relations

People Leadership

In a supportive reporting relationship (not direct reporting), provide coaching and mentorship to Operations Managers, Client Managers and Consulting Engineers on sales tactics and relationship maintenance.

Success Measurements

Success measurements will be established annually based on the following criteria

Sales Activities

Attend an average of 8 “joint client meetings” per month, with a Client Manager or Consulting Engineer. This is in addition to other solo client meetings and networking events.

Proposals Generated

Quantity and size of proposals submitted to clients by all Client Managers and Consulting Engineers in the United States operations.

Proposal Win Rate

Average win rate of proposals submitted by all Client Managers and Consulting Engineers in the United States operations

Revenue Growth in Key Accounts

As determined with individual Operations Managers, Client Managers, and Consulting Engineers, a portfolio of Key Accounts will be identified. Target growth rates will be determined for Key Accounts
Revenue Growth Overall
As determined in the Annual Operating Plan (aka., budget), with target growth rates being established for all of the United States.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of progressive business leadership, sales, and people leadership experience
Certification as a Professional Electrical Engineer, Professional Technologist, or Certified Engineering Technologist is an asset
Electrical Power Systems background is an asset
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage, coach and motivate a large team to achieve organizational goals
Goal orientated with dedication to an exceptional client experience
Proven ability to proactively and effectively communicate with various cross functional stakeholders to achieve operational excellence
Strong interpersonal and communication skills that leverage relationships to achieve success both through direct and indirect authority
Experience in dealing effectively and quickly with change in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment
Strong business acumen
Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
Highly motivated, energetic, passionate, and accountable to deliver results
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed relationship management skills to interact with various levels within our organization
Ability to travel (up to 40% of the time)
