Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Client Development Manager, Automation Solutions Focus based in our Alberta region.  Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the successful candidate will be accountable for developing new business with focus on Automation Solutions, developing and maintaining client relationships, securing new clients/business across Western Canada, overseeing projects’ execution at a high level, providing conceptual and high level technical expertise, mentorship and leadership to junior team members and preparation and monitoring of processes for successful execution of projects.

Understanding Magna IV Engineering’s overall capabilities, the successful candidate will interface with clients to develop requirements and functional specifications documents, develop solutions to complex client automation problems, articulate proposed solutions, oversee plans and execution of projects, provide expertise, mentorship, coaching and leadership to team members; ultimately providing superior client experiences through the completion of Automation and Power Systems projects.

Sectors currently served by the Automation Team include Bulk Material Handling, Oil & Gas, Water & Wastewater, Power Utilities, generation/co-generation units, Food & Beverage, Pulp & Paper and others.

Accountabilities

Client Development, Automation Solutions (60%) 

Identify and seek out leads with existing and new potential clients.  Coordinate activities with Director of BD and Marketing personnel to achieve a collaborative effort with the goal of creating confidence within the industry for Magna IV Engineering’s Automation capabilities.
Interact and collaborate with client managers from other teams, departments, and offices to share client information and seek shared opportunities.
Foster a culture of strong client relationships and support team members in establishing strong relationships and communication with clients.
Identify opportunities for proposals, draft proposals, and explain/negotiate proposals with clients or delegate to the applicable project manager(s).
For new clients, lead Automation Solutions proposal development efforts based on audits, studies, and recommendations in response to client requests and assist in closing new business opportunities.
Interact with clients in a courteous and professional manner
Attend pre-contract client meetings to help solidify Magna IV’s position and increase client confidence in the Magna IV Automation team.
Demonstrate an entrepreneurial approach to building client relationships and growing the business in the assigned territory.
Seek out networking opportunities with potential clients and industry colleagues through industry networking events to grow Magna’s presence in the region.
In collaboration with the operations team, Identify, coordinate, and implement operations initiatives that will provide solutions that satisfy the requirements of our clients.
It is expected that the Client Development Manager, through their previous experience, has existing clientelle and/or contacts whom can be further developed for potential services by Magna IV.

Client Development, Power Systems Solutions (40%) 

It is expected that the Client Development Manager, though collaboration with Magna IV’s Power Systems teams, will seek joint business development opportunities to also grow Magna IV’s power systems engineering and technical field services business.
These services include but are not limited to: Power systems engineering design, engineering studies, project management, technical field services as it pertains to high, medium and low voltage acceptance and maintenance testing/commissioning.

Project Management & Leadership

Develop project schedules and budgets in collaboration with clients and internal project management resources.
Oversee all aspects of Power & Automation Systems projects with new clients to ensure continuity and proper knowledge transfer to execution team(s).
Provide specific technical expertise and guidance in the development of employee skills.
For new clients, oversee projects ranging in values from $10,000 to multi-million. This may include project management duties as well as client interface.
Work collaboratively with other teams, departments, and regions to share resources effectively.
Ensure completion all project deliverables to the satisfaction of the client.
During project execution, ensure further opportunities for new business and change order management are explored.
For each project ensure a professional engineer has been assigned responsibility for any required review, verification, and authentication.
Ensure necessary communications is achieved with clients.
Ensure proper, complete preparation is done for scheduled work.
Ensure safe work processes are executed with each job and a culture of safety is fostered.
Ensure completion of engineering or field services reports and follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction and completeness of work.
Ensure completion of project invoicing with the support of Accounting personnel in a timely manner.
Collaborate with operations managers to achieve acceptable profit margins on all projects.
Ensure safe work process is executed with each job and a culture of safety is fostered.
Apply practical application experience and knowledge of power and automation systems.
Ensure safely around low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems in a variety of environments, including commercial, utilities, manufacturing, mining, pulp and paper, pipeline and oil and gas
Be a mentor and coach for junior employees and a cohesive team player

Success Measurements

1. New Client Development and Quotes/Proposals targets
2. Quarterly and Annual Revenue Targets

Qualifications

10-15 years experience in the Automation industry as an Engineer, Technologist and/or project manager with proven track record of establishing and fostering solid client relationships.
Proven track record in the design, commissioning and maintaining automation systems, including PLCs, DCS, Instrumentation, HMIs and Information Software.
Comfort and familiarity with the business cycles of engineering and maintenance of electrical power systems.
Broad knowledge in Industrial, Substations, Renewables and Utility environments.
Takes a consultative problem solving approach with potential clients.
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and develop a team to achieve results
Proven ability to proactively and effectively communicate with various cross functional stakeholders to achieve operational excellence.
Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills.
Excellent time management skills with an attention to detail.
Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external clients.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed relationship management skills to interact with various levels within the clients’ organizations.
Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
Proven commitment to safety
Must have a valid drivers’ license
A positive, “can-do” attitude, is highly self-motivated, energetic, passionate and reliable
