Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Junior/Intermediate Electrical Designer within our Engineering Team in our Calgary office. Reporting to the Consulting Engineer, the successful candidate will be accountable for providing an exceptional client experience by creating and designing electrical drawings that support the team in the various areas of electrical consulting services. The team provides electrical consulting services for a variety of projects including land development, Utility distribution upgrades, electrical studies, lighting designs, protection coordination, wind farm designs, and substation designs and upgrades. This opportunity is for a candidate with 2 to 7 years of experience.

Accountabilities

Prepare detailed drawings of a variety of maps, plans, charts, and engineering designs using AutoCad and Micro Station.
Provide technical support to Engineers and Project Managers.
Preparation of work packages for teams and clients.
Build and maintain exceptional client and vendor relationships to enable successful project execution.
Coordinate and arrange for repairs, inspections and approvals of Construction Completion Certificates as required.
Provide drafting, design, and coordination within engineering department.
Take on land development, servicing, and lighting projects as workload requires. Utilities Project Manager will provide direction where applicable.
Attend on site construction meetings, document meeting minutes, and provide support to Project Managers during construction and commissioning phases of assigned work.
Attend Industry Events, interface with clients with business development intent.
Electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Graduate of a technical institute in electrical systems
Professional training in drafting
Professional drafting (designing) experience would be an asset
Proficiency with AutoCad is required (Microstation expertise is an asset but not required)
Proficiency with AGI32 or similar lighting design packages would be an asset
Experience with electrical system testing/commissioning
Experience with protection relays and associated software
Experience with ETAP, SKM or EASYPOWER software
Proficiency with PLS-CADD, SAG10 or Overhead Design software would be an asset
Strong business acumen and relationship building skills
Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
Strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Must be able to work in a dynamic work environment
Excellent time management skills with a strong attention to detail
Professional team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
A positive, “can-do” attitude and client focused approach
