We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager in our Calgary region. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful candidate will manage the overall operations of the Calgary Engineering team (currently comprised of 5-10 individuals) focused on delivering expertise on Medium Voltage Industrial Power Systems and Generation projects, ensuring that we provide superior client experiences and meet technical and operational standards.  The Engineering Manager will be accountable for developing our relationships with Industrial & Generation clients (Oil & Gas Production, Refining, Pipelines, Manufacturing, Energy Production, and Pulp & Paper).

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

People Leadership:

  • Manage the Calgary Engineering Department through strong people leadership skills and a drive for results
  • Organize, motivate, and coordinate Engineering Team Members (including Project Managers, and Technical Specialists) who are responsible for project proposals, client management, project execution (of up to multi-million dollar projects), leadership and/or mentorship of junior/intermediate team members
  • Determine department resource needs based on estimated workload forecasts and execute recruitment of appropriate talent with Human Resources
  • Manage the performance of all Team Members through ongoing coaching, recognition, performance management, and compensation
  • Identify and develop team members to ensure we meet the highest performance standards while developing team members within their current role and for future roles; to be a source of talent for Magna
  • Support and implement employee engagement practices to ensure we can attract and retain the best tale

Business Objectives:

  • Work collaboratively with Senior Leadership to set objectives aligned with Magna’s overall goals for growth in expertise, services and volume
  • Ensure the Calgary Engineering team meets and exceeds company objectives and goals
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of the annual operating budget
  • Work with the Director of Operations to measure department performance as it relates to key performance indicators (revenue, margin, utilization, effectiveness)
  • Promote a common understanding and commitment to department and project objectives

Client Management:

  • Identify, coordinate and implement operations initiatives that will create exceptional client experiences
  • Provide continuous development and improvement to ensure we provide superior client experiences to all Magna clients
  • Foster a culture of strong client relationships and support team members in establishing strong relationships and communication with clients
  • Provide proposals for work to clients or delegate to the applicable project manager(s)

Processes & Systems:

  • Ensure the development and improvement of engineering processes, standards and design methods
  • Ensure that all project work is completed within required scope
  • Foster an environment that enables technical excellence, accuracy and timeliness
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with all Magna teams to assist in implementing and executing Magna practices and processes

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Electrical Engineering Degree complemented by 10 years of proven experience in Electrical Engineering and Project Management (Industrial and Generation)
  • A minimum of 5 years of People Management experience at a senior level
  • Designated as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the province of Alberta
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage and motivate a large team to achieve organizational goals
  • Possesses a positive attitude, is highly self-motivated, energetic, passionate and reliable
  • Goal orientated with dedication to exceptional client experiences
  • Proven ability to proactively and effectively communicate with various cross functional stakeholders to achieve operational excellence
  • Strong interpersonal skills that leverage your relationships to achieve success both through direct and indirect authority
  • Experience in dealing effectively and quickly with change in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to travel (5% of the time)
