Description

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Generator Control Solutions Applications Engineer/Technologist will be accountable to support the engineering and sales teams to improve the company’s market position and achieve financial targets. The candidate will help identify potential opportunities, qualify, develop, and deliver solutions, while continuing to foster and develop customer relationships; ultimately providing exceptional client experiences.

Through our channel partnership with ComAp, we have access to one of the best generator controls system platforms. Our strategy is to combine this excellent hardware platform with Magna IV’s best-in-class engineering and technical field services to offer our clients superior generator controls upgrade solutions.

The candidate’s primary responsibility is to provide the highest standard of support to our clients technically through on-site assistance, execution of projects and proposing technically sound solutions. A key requirement of this role will also be to support our sales efforts towards growing our generator control upgrade applications. Keys to providing superior support will be through effective and efficient problem-solving, training, installation assistance, commissioning, and validating provided controls. We strive to support our customers to deliver best in class products, services and continued support.

Accountabilities

Develop and retain an in-depth functional knowledge for the entire ComAp product portfolio (our Channel Partner).
Interface with customers to comprehend their technical requirements.
Assist with the product specification, installation, commissioning, and training for ComAp controls to meet customer requirements.
Conduct in-house and on-site training for new and existing customers.
Create and review wiring diagrams and schematics.
Provide a high level of technical development support through on-site and remote (telephone and email) communications.
Collaborate with the Sales team to prepare project objectives, engineering trip reports, change requests and other reports as necessary.
Ensure customer satisfaction through the design, specification, installation, operation, and support of ComAp products in accordance with the requirements of the customer and company strategy.
Communicate with cross functional teams to ensure successful and timely completion of customer requirements.
Develop application and technical service documentation.
Develop and strengthen principal working relationships ComAp’s application engineering, technical support and/or sales team to resolve client inquiries.
The Application Engineer assists the engineering department by facilitating and finalizing the sales process via product solution delivery and on-going training and guidance to the client. The Applications Engineer assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Business Development.
Communicate new market trends to Marketing and the Business Development Managers, and assist with decisions regarding company direction.
Develop negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new business opportunities with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating customers' needs and goals; assist in the close of new business deals

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or Technology Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, and 5+ years in a related Generator Application Engineering position, or equivalent experience at director’s discretion.
Knowledge of standby and paralleling generators, switchgear, ATS, reciprocating engines, BiFuel engines, pumps, compressors or other industrial equipment
Knowledge of PLC or Microprocessor based controls, software and logic
Good working knowledge with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
Ability to travel, both domestic and internationally
This position requires travel 30-50% of the time and flexibility may be required
Ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels in the organization
Work as a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills
Flexibility to respond to changing business needs
Preference will be given to individuals with demonstrated experience supporting organization’s sales efforts to produce a positive business impact
Broad-based knowledge of marketing strategy and management
Exhibit sound commercial judgment
Strong entrepreneurial orientation coupled with good business and financial acumen
Display both creative and strategic thinking
Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions is required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed abilities to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
Career-minded individual with proven initiative, client focus and attention to detail
Must have a valid driver's license
