Sure, We Can Fix That
Sometimes brand new electrical equipment doesn't work when it gets to site. Maybe there is a problem during assembly, or jostling during transport becomes enough to loosen a critical component. This is part of the advantage to performing electrical commissioning, to identify deficiencies and correct them before they become bigger, and more costly problems. As a NETA accredited company, we are committed to advancing industry standards for power system installations, testing and maintenance.
A few years ago in late 2012, we were really excited to move into our new office building in South Edmonton. There are lots of pluses to being in a new facility that includes ample space for our growing company, an overhead crane loading bay with shop space, multiple meeting rooms and boardrooms, a fitness center and two kitchen-eating areas. One area our building planners paid attention to was our staff's request to reduce or eliminate the wait for microwaves at lunchtime,so we installed microwaves in both of our kitchens.
Here's a story involving one of our microwaves. Because of the increased capacity and tendency of people to use the closest available appliance, the microwave at the far end of the kitchen was hardly ever tested. It took a while, but we eventually discovered it did not work, and unfortunately by this time the warranty period had expired. So, we had one non-functioning microwave, but being an electrical engineering company that prides itself on 'electrical confidence', we weren't too worried. After hearing about the situation, one evening Klaus Mack and Homayoun Akhavansafa, two of our Electrical Services Department engineers decided to take a closer look. What they did was almost a little counter-intuitive -- being used to troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic equipment, they took apart one of our perfectly working microwaves! In the absence of a service manual, this allowed them to exchange parts with the non-functioning unit to isolate the problem. What they eventually found was a loose connection was causing a trip, and after putting it back together properly, both microwaves were working, all within an hour.
"If we would have known earlier it could have been fixed a long time ago" - Klaus Mack
There are a number of natural synergies at Magna that give our clients an advantage working with us. Our Technical Field Services teams work with our Electrical Engineers to shorten the time required to solve complicated problems that might otherwise go beyond the time or budget allowed. Conversely, our Engineers have access to Technicians and Technologists with hands-on experience, which reinforces our capability to provide practical solutions that work in real-world installations. Our Electrical Services Department can certainly fix microwave ovens, but they can also provide turnkey engineering solutions for electronics.
