Quick and accurate fault locating is an important element to minimizing system downtime and equipment damage, and serves to optimize longevity and reliability of any power system. Having properly trained personnel and incorporating the latest fault finding techniques and equipment allows Magna IV Engineering to identify faults efficiently and safely so that repairs can be completed in a timely manner.
Magna IV Engineering’s scope of work included fault location and repair on 25kV feeder cables powering the Rogers Pass tunnel lights.
Initial testing included insulation resistance of the faulted conductors. The impulse (thumper) method and time domain reflectometry (TDR) was used to determine the location of the faults. The faulted cables were repaired and tested to ensure suitability for continued service.
