Kelly Butz Appointed New CEO of Magna IV Engineering Effective September 1, 2016

EDMONTON, AB--August 29, 2016--Magna IV Engineering announced this summer that its board has appointed Kelly Butz, P.Eng. as Chief Executive Officer effective September 1, 2016. Outgoing CEO Ken Unruh, P.Eng. will assume a position with the board of Magna IV Engineering.

In the past 8 years as CEO, Ken Unruh has led Magna IV Engineering to a deepened understanding of its professional services model and improved business management, all the while demonstrating Magna's value statement, 'we do what we say'. His tenure has seen the company grow significantly; from a single operating region in Edmonton to 10 offices across Canada, the United States and Chile; and, from 80 employees to over 240. Furthermore, Unruh has guided the company to grow its expertise across a wide range of services, without losing its core competency in the electrical discipline, with power, control, and lighting systems. "Right now, there's just so much opportunity, and this just feels right," says Unruh, who with excitement and enthusiasm has decided to step into a supporting leadership role on the board, providing governance and mentorship to the management team.

"I am very excited to be a part of this new chapter for Magna, where together there is much we can accomplish," says Kelly Butz, incoming CEO. Butz has been part of the Magna IV Engineering team for 12 years. He has amassed a deep diversity of electrical and business leadership experience ranging from repairing breakers to detailed design, and from managing maintenance shutdowns to leading multi-regional operations groups. In his latest role as Vice President of Engineering, Kelly's entrepreneurial spirit was on display in his focus on Magna's growing markets in Western Canada and the United States. "I want to thank Ken Unruh for the coaching I have received from him, and his continuous reminder to 'do as we say' -- it will be a legacy that will remain with our company for a long time to come," says Kelly Butz.

"With Kelly, we believe we have found exactly the right person, to become the next CEO of Magna IV Engineering," says Board Chairman, Alan Skoreyko. And, looking forward to the future, Butz is confident, stating, "As we build our company, we will be the firm that defines 'electrical confidence'. Our services will expand as we pick up new leading edge technologies, provide construction management, and grow our control systems expertise. We will work to make Magna the leader in electrical field service and consulting engineering among every geographic region in which we operate."

  • Congratulations. I am not surprised. I only knew Kelly for a brief period but I was quite impressed with his performance. Magna IV Engineering should do well under his leadership.
